Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Manica Diamonds have strengthened their leadership structures with the appointment of prominent businessman and technocrat Mberikwazvo Chitambo as the club’s patron with immediate effect.
The Gem Boys announced the appointment on Thursday through their official social media platforms, describing the move as part of the club’s efforts to reinforce its governance framework and long-term strategic vision.
Chitambo joins the Mutare-based outfit at a critical stage of the season as the club battles to improve its fortunes in the league and avoid being dragged deeper into the relegation fight.
A respected corporate executive, Chitambo has held several senior leadership positions in Zimbabwe’s business sector, including serving as managing director and later chief operating officer at Sakunda Holdings. He has also been involved in various investment promotion and community development initiatives.
The appointment is expected to add significant corporate expertise and strategic leadership to the club’s administration as president Evance Kamombo continues to drive Manica Diamonds’ growth ambitions.
The development comes just days before Manica Diamonds face Harare giants Dynamos in a crucial Premier Soccer League encounter on Sunday.
The Gem Boys are seeking valuable points to improve their standing on the league table, with the clash against the Glamour Boys carrying added importance as the campaign approaches its midway stage.
A positive result against one of the country’s most successful clubs could provide the catalyst for a revival in Manica Diamonds’ season.
The appointment of Chitambo is being viewed as a statement of intent by the club, signalling its commitment to strengthening both its off-field structures and on-field competitiveness.
Supporters will be hoping that the renewed confidence in the boardroom translates into improved performances on the pitch as the Gem Boys look to secure their top-flight status and push up the standings.
Manica Diamonds will be looking to combine their latest administrative boost with a strong display against Dynamos as they seek to kick-start their campaign.
