Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi remains part of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ plans for the 2026/27 season after the English Championship club retained him on its official list, although speculation over his future continues to gather momentum ahead of the new campaign.
Wolves confirmed this week that Munetsi, along with fellow Zimbabweans Tawanda Chirewa, Leon Chiwome and Ethan Sutherland, will remain under contract for the upcoming season.
The announcement comes after Munetsi returned from a loan spell at French side Paris FC, where he impressed during the second half of last season.
However, despite being retained, the 30-year-old midfielder could still be on the move during the current transfer window if Wolves receive a suitable offer.
Reports indicate that Nottingham Forest are interested in securing the services of the Zimbabwe international, while Paris FC, who were initially keen on turning his loan stay into a permanent deal, have reportedly cooled their interest.
Munetsi’s retention is significant for Zimbabwean football, given his status as one of the Warriors’ most influential players and one of the country’s highest-profile exports in Europe.
The former Orlando Pirates and Stade de Reims midfielder has established himself as a dependable box-to-box player, earning admiration for his work rate, leadership qualities and ability to contribute goals from midfield.
While his future remains uncertain, Wolves’ decision to keep him on their retained list ensures he remains a valuable asset for the Championship side as they prepare for the new season.
The club also retained winger Chirewa, who has returned to Molineux after spending the second half of last season on loan at Barnsley.
Chiwome, another highly rated Zimbabwean prospect, spent much of last season sidelined through injury but remains part of the club’s long-term plans.
Development team player Sutherland was also retained, underlining Wolves’ continued faith in their Zimbabwean contingent.
