Herentals FC’s impressive run in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League has been rewarded after coach Paul Benza and captain Ralph Kawondera were named the league’s Coach and Player of the Month for May.

The double accolade comes after a remarkable month in which the Students continued to punch above their weight and establish themselves among the title contenders.

Benza masterminded a strong run of results that kept Herentals firmly in the championship race, with the Students maintaining one of the league’s best defensive records while consistently collecting points against some of the

Herentals capped their month with a crucial 1-0 away victory over FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium, a result that further underlined the team’s growing credentials.

Leading the charge on the field was skipper Kawondera, whose goalscoring exploits have been central to the club’s success. The veteran forward has emerged as one of the standout performers of the 2026 campaign and remains among the league’s leading scorers.

Kawondera’s leadership and eye for goal have provided the platform for Herentals’ rise, with the striker setting the pace in the race for the Golden Boot after scoring eight goals during the opening phase of the season.

The awards complete a memorable month for Herentals, who have transformed from relegation candidates in previous seasons into genuine title challengers under Benza’s stewardship.

Benza has received widespread praise for building a competitive side without the financial muscle enjoyed by some of the league’s traditional heavyweights, while Kawondera’s resurgence has been one of the stories of the season. The experienced captain has combined his goalscoring ability with strong leadership as Herentals continue to exceed expectations.
