Zimbabwe Chevrons coach Justin Sammons has underscored the significance of the Zimbabwe A side’s ongoing tour of Bangladesh, describing it as a vital development platform for the country’s emerging talent and fringe national team players rather than a mission driven solely by results.

The Zimbabwe A squad is currently in Bangladesh for a series against quality opposition, with several players on the fringes of the senior national team included in the touring party.

Sammons believes the experience will provide invaluable exposure to unfamiliar conditions and help prepare players for the demands of international cricket.

Speaking on the importance of the tour, Sammons said the opportunity to compete overseas against strong opposition was exactly the kind of challenge Zimbabwe Cricket has been seeking for its next generation of players.

“It is a very important tour.

“It is a huge, important, and great opportunity for our guys to go over there and learn in different conditions.

“They now have the opportunity to play against, obviously, quality opposition, and there is no substitute for that,” said Sammons.

The Chevrons coach has a vested interest in the success of the tour, with a number of players from his wider national team plans selected for the trip in a bid to gain crucial game time and experience.

Sammons said the focus should remain on the lessons learned and growth achieved by the players rather than the final scorecards.

“It is the kind of step up which we have always wanted for the emerging talent,” he said.

“The tour is ultimately about learning and making sure that they come back here having gained from that experience rather than just the results.

“The exposure and experience they will have gained is something that they can then take into international cricket if it comes their way.”
