Warriors forward Tinotenda Kadewere’s international career has suffered another major blow to his return to national colors after an injury ruled him out of next week’s four-nation Unity Cup tournament in London, England.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) confirmed the development in a squad update, which also revealed the withdrawal of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Divine Lunga and Belgian-based winger Bill Antonio.

Kadewere’s exclusion is a severe setback for interim coach Kaitano Tembo, who had named the 30-year-old in his squad to face holders Nigeria, Jamaica, and India.

According to an official statement from the ZIFA, the trio has been replaced by local players  league players:

The injury adds another frustrating chapter to Kadewere’s on and off relationship with the national team.

It comes at a time of bitter irony for the Aris Thessaloniki striker, who only days ago enjoyed a spectacular outing in the Greek Super League.

Coming off the bench in the 59th minute against Levadiakos, Kadewere broke a deadlock in the 63rd minute, provided an assist in the 72nd, and sealed a 3-0 victory with a second goal in the 80th minute.

Following that performance, the former FC Nantes forward had expressed his immense eagerness to return to the national fold and serve the country in London.

Instead, Kadewere must now undergo rehabilitation in Greece, further delaying his long-awaited reunion with the Warriors.
