Financial boost for ZC

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has received a US$20,000 financial boost from the Tobacco Industries Cricket Supporters Association (TICSA), signaling the revival of a partnership that has shaped the sport’s infrastructure for over 40 years.

The donation was officially handed over by TICSA Chairman Dave Bain to ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni this week.

The funds are earmarked to support the governing body’s ongoing development initiatives following a period of significant administrative and competitive growth.

TICSA has been a cornerstone of Zimbabwean cricket history, most notably financing the western grandstand at Harare Sports Club ahead of the 2003 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Bain indicated that the association is returning to the fold due to the current trajectory of the sport under the present leadership.

“Tobacco Industries was created to support cricket at all levels in Zimbabwe and has been doing that for 45 years,” said Bain.

“During its history, there have been several periods of inactivity, resulting in a decline in interest in the sport. Under the current administration of ZC there has been a positive transformation of cricket which our association fully supports and endorses,” he said.

Bain specifically cited the recent hosting of World Cup qualifying events and the national team’s historic Super Eight finish at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as evidence of the board’s success.

“The leadership of ZC has made significant strides in putting Zimbabwe firmly back on the international stag.

“This has been underpinned by strict control of finances, development of the national side and grassroots programmes which have secured the future for some time to come,”said Bain.
