Financial services company Mukuru has returned as the title sponsor for the 2026 St John’s Mukuru Derby Day Festival, a move that coincides with St John’s College’s landmark 40th anniversary.
The fifth edition of the week-long event, which is set to run from 27 April to 2 May 2026, will be the largest to date.
This year edition of the Mukuru Derby Day Festival will a total of 49 schools competing in the three sport disciplines, namely rugby, football, and hockey.
The 2026 lineup will see 19 schools participating in ruby with 14 schools expected to battle it out in the football discipline.
The hockey category will see a total of sixteen schools (8 boys’ and 8 girls’ teams) battling it out.

The festival is designed to replicate the intensity of traditional derby fixtures in a centralized format by bringing the nation’s fiercest rivalries to one venue.
The festival has evolved into a critical scouting hub for professional academies.
Following the 2025 event, several participants were recruited into the Sharks Academy and other professional developmental ranks.
Mukuru Zimbabwe CEO, Doug Tait-Knight said his company’s commitment to sponsor the Derby Day Festival is part of investing back in the community.

For St John’s College, the partnership with Mukuru is fundamental to the festival’s growth as a flagship event for Zimbabwean youth sport.
