Scott fails to honour promise, as players get less

Game-On Reporter

Scottland players finally received their bonuses for winning the Zifa Northern Region Soccer League Championship.

But they did not get what they were promised by club owner Scott Sakupwanya, a flamboyant gold buyer.

At first Sakupwanya promised to award each player US$ 10 000 for winning the championship, but the money was then reduced to US$5 000.

When President Emmerson Mnangagwa gave Warriors players $6 500 each for qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals, Sakupwanya a ZANU PF legislator, decided to review his offer to US$5 000, so as not to “outshine” President Mnangagwa.

But Scottland players received the shock of their lives when only US$ 3 000 was deposited into their newly opened Ecobank accounts over the weekend.

A player who spoke to Game-On on condition of anonymity revealed that it was difficult to ask the reason behind the downsizing of the promise fearing victimization from the club.

“We were promised US $ 10 000 before he said he was now rewarding us with US$ 5 000 because the club was not in a position to give us more than what the Warriors received from the government for qualifying for the 2025 AFCON finals.

“But on Friday we were shocked to have our accounts credited with just US$ 3 000.

“We are not in a position to ask what happened to the initial promise because these guys will think that you are becoming a hot head and you will be shown the exit,” said the player.
