Chawonza lays conditions for a DeMbare return

…Pact with Magwizi in the ZIFA elections imminent

Vincent Chawonza is now waiting to meet Sakunda Holdings representative, Nqobile Magwizi, before his Dynamos comeback is sealed.

Magwizi, who is reportedly in Cape Town on a business trip, is a key figure at energy giant Sakunda Holdings, who have made it clear they will discontinue their financial support for DeMbare if there is no change of administration at the Harare giants.

Sakunda and the influential wife of board chair Bernard Marriot, are in agreement that former vice chairman Chawonza is the right person to bounce back as the new chairman.

A pact between Magwizi, who is vying for the ZIFA presidency and Chawonza who wants a place on the ZIFA Board, is therefore imminent.

But, Chawonza has set some interesting conditions.

He doesn’t want board chairman Bernard Marriot to interfere in the day to day running of the club.

Sources say Marriot could be placed on a lucrative monthly salary and enjoy his life at home with his highly influential wife.

The impeccable source also claims that Chawonza, a favourite with many players, is not eager to work with members of the current executive led by the “unwanted” Moses Maunganidze.

“He wants to come in with his own team,” says the source.

“That’s why Maunganidze and crew are yet to decide on the future of interim coach Lloyd Chigowe because their future is also in serious doubt.”

Chawonza was appointed Dynamos vice chairman in February 2023 and worked under Maunganidze until he was sacked a year later.

Dynamos accused Chawonza of bringing the name of the club into disrepute by issuing media statements without the board’s approval.

However, it emerged that some of the club’s executive members were pushing for Chawonza’s ouster as he was seen as an impediment to their shoddy deals.

This version was perhaps proved correct when Musa Gwasira, was later on fired from his post as treasurer, for abusing funds meant for signing on fees.

Maunganidze’s shortcomings were also exposed by club legend Murape Murape in an interview with renowned journalist Yvonne Mangunda.

Murape opened the lid on Dynamos’ CAF Confederation Cup excursion in Botswana, revealing that players slept at a substandard lodge, similar to Harare’s popular brothel Mugoni Lodge.

Players and staff also ate substandard food bought from unverified sources.

Game-On can also reveal that Dynamos had no CAF recommended match balls and coach Lloyd Chigowe had to intervene and buy 12.

If Chawonza gets his wish, then Maunganidze and his executive, which includes vice chairman Clemence Chimbare, will be shown the exit door.

“Chawonza wants a fresh start at the club,” says the source.

“Talk is that they want to come up with a five-year blue print that should see Dynamos regaining its position as the best football club in the country.

“Marriot has been told mudhara you have failed in the last 10 years and it is now time to change the way things are done at DeMbare.”

Dynamos have not won the league title since 2014 and they have deteriorated alarmingly in the last decade that Marriot has been the board chairman.
