The Kynoch Lomagundi College Super 8 Cricket tournament returns after a two year Covid-19 induced sabbatical as it kicks off this Friday afternoon.

The tournament returns with a bang as this year’s edition sees an increase in the participants as 10 teams will battle it for the ultimate price. The previous edition participants Lomagundi College, Falcon College, Peterhouse Boys, St George’s , Hellenic Academy and St Johns College are set to battle out with newcomers Prince Edward School, Churchill High School, Zambian Academy (Zambia), and the Christian Brothers College.

Ahead of the festivities, Lomagundi College Sports Director Guy Ngwarati said it is great to have the tournament back as they learnt a thing or two from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Pretty awesome to have the tournament back after a 2 year hiatus. We are elated to host Zimbabwe’s best in cricket. What Covid-19 has taught us is never to take this for granted. This year’s tournament is a celebration of life after the pandemic,” Ngwarati said.

This year’s edition will see the teams fighting for honours the under 15s and the open category a move that has been described by Ngwarati as vital as the under 15 category is the most forgotten age group in most sports.

“The reason we chose U15 is that it is the most forgotten age group in sport. Most tournaments aim for U14, U16 and the open age groups. We would like the youngsters to showcase their talents and take advantage of opportunities that avail themselves.

“The top echelon of Zimbabwe Cricket will be here and hopefully a star will be born here at Lomagundi College,” he added.

Ngwarati added that efforts are being made to keep the tournament exclusive for top future talent and all top players who have the statistics to back them up will be included.

The Kynoch Super 8 offers a platform for new talent to grace the stage. A number of players who took part in the last edition have been in exceptional form.

Players like Tadiwanashe Marumani (Player of the tournament), Emmanuel Bawa (Best Batsmen), Rogan Wolhuter (Best Wicketkeeper) and Tendekayi Mataranyika (Best Bowler) have been in stellar form as they have managed to make names for themselves.

The quartet has presented the country in the U-19 team whilst Marumani has been setting the local league ablaze.
