NSS refurbishment nears completion says Jere

Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Farai Jere has revealed that the refurbishment of the National Sports Stadium is now 60 percent complete.

Jere provided the update at the Pre-Budget Seminar for the 2026 National Budget in Bulawayo, Jere stated that the infrastructure refurbishment of the National Sports Stadium was progressing well.

“The project is key to restoring Zimbabwe’s flagship stadium to international standards, enabling the hosting of high-profile matches and events,” said Jere.

Among the works that have been completed in the ongoing refurbishment of the giant stadium are the installation of bucket seats and the planting of a hybrid turf.

“Bucket seats have been fully installed, four gates with electronic sensors have been installed and a hybrid turf has been planted.

“Water and irrigation system is now 70 percent complete, perimeter fencing is now 60 percent done,” said Jere.

Despite contractors having been fully paid, Jere admitted that the works on the refurbishment were now lagging behind.

“Allow me on this project, as Mr. Speaker sir, to thank Treasury.

“The report which we got from the Ministry is quite encouraging.

“We are now behind because of the nature of the work which is being done, but all the payments to the contractors are up to date on this particular project,” said Jere
