A new era has begun for the Malawi Men’s Senior National Team as the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has officially appointed Zimbabwean tactician Kalisto Pasuwa as the new head coach.
The seasoned gaffer, who led FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to an unprecedented dominance in Malawian club football, has signed a two year contract to steer the Flames to new heights.
Pasuwa’s appointment comes as Malawi seeks stability and progress on the international stage. His track record speaks volumes, having guided Big Bullets to multiple Super League titles and previously leading Zimbabwe’s Warriors to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, he brings both experience and a winning mentality to the Flames’ dugout.
Speaking to Southern Africa Football News Reporter in Malawi, Pasuwa expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead.
“Coaching a national team is always an honor and a responsibility. Malawi has great potential, and my goal is to instill discipline, tactical awareness, and a winning mindset. We will build a team that competes fearlessly at all levels,” he said.
FAM President Fleetwood Haiya believes Pasuwa is the right man to transform Malawi’s football fortunes.
“We wanted a coach who understands Malawian football and has a proven track record of success. Pasuwa’s achievements with Big Bullets and Zimbabwe speak for themselves. We are confident he will bring stability and progress to the Flames,” Haiya stated.
The new coach’s first major task will be preparing the Flames for the upcoming World Cup and AFCON qualifiers. With fans eager to see a more competitive national team, Pasuwa will be expected to assemble a squad capable of challenging the continent’s best.
