Musona speaks on Warriors return

Former Zimbabwe Warriors captain Knowledge Musona is feeling happy to be back to the Warriors fold after hanging the boots three years ago.

Musona has come out of international football retirement ahead of two crucial World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria.

The Warriors host Benin on Thursday before travelling to Nigeria for a return fixture on Tuesday.

Musona who is making his return to the Warriors following his retirement from international football in 2022 is happy to be back to represent his country.

“I am feeling good, I am feeling great.

“I am happy to be back and looking forward to the upcoming games.

“It is quite exciting and I really hope that they can come up and represent the national team to the highest level,” said the former Warriors skipper.

Musona had his first training session with the Warriors squad on Tuesday afternoon.

He is expected to provide leadership in the squad although he will not reclaim his armband.

Marvelous Nakamba is the current skipper but will miss the two matches through injury.

Marshall Munetsi will wear the armband but Musona revealed his desire to help the current crop of the national team players.

“My first training was good and I have seen a lot of quality and I think the future is bright for the Warriors.

“I am looking forward to helping these youngsters and contribute to their development,” said Musona.

The Warriors anchor Group C of the CAF Word Cup qualifiers, and yet to record a victory, but Musona believes Zimbabwe has the quality and are still in contention for qualification.

“In football everything is possible, you know, and I think it starts with this game that is coming.

“The most important thing is to take the three points first in this coming game and try to go and collect some points in Nigeria.

“With this quality and this group I think we are able to collect maximum points and it all depends on the work that we put in on training and of course in the match that is coming.

“I really believe that we have a team and personally I would love that we win these two games that are coming to stay in the contention of the World Cup qualifiers,” said Musona.
