…Gold dealer slashes winning bonus

SCOTTLAND might have won their debut Premier Soccer League against Triangle United last Friday, but that historic achievement was not good enough for club owner Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, who watched from the VVIP tribune at Rufaro.
The newly promoted Scottland needed a last gasp winner, in fact an own goal, to edge Triangle in front of a decent crowd.
Following their offseason shopping spree, many expected Scottland who paraded an array of stars to dismantle Triangle, but it was the visitors who won the crowd, especially their dreadlocked midfielder Munashe Bamara.
Sakupwanya had hoped for a polished performance from his boys, especially on a day he was celebrating his 46th birthday.
A cake was even to brought to Rufaro Stadium in anticipation of a huge birthday present from the team.
But the gold dealer was disappointed with what he saw.
So frustrated was Sakupwanya that he slashed the winning bonuses for the match from US$600 to US$200.
A Scottland player confirmed the development.

“We had been promised a US$600 for the win.
“But after the match murungu (Sakupwanya) was not happy with the display.
“He made his feelings known soon after the match before instructing that we be given US$200 instead of the US$600, that we had been promised before the match,” said a Scottland player.
Scottland return to Rufaro on Sunday to face CAPS United.
As things stand, pressure is already mounting on Scottland coach Tonderai Ndiraya who has been asked to deliver week in week, to repay Sakupwanya’s massive investment in the team.
Scottland are home to six players who were on the 2024 Soccer Stars calendar, including reigning Soccer Star of the Year Walter Musona.
Super star Khama Billiat, Kingsley Mureremba, Godknows Murwira, Tymon Machope and 2024 Golden Boot winner Lynoth Chikuhwa are all at Scottland.
