PROMINENT football blogger Makomborero “Mako Gold” Mutimukulu has labelled former Mighty Warriors captain Rosemary Mugadza as a foolish and dull former footballer.
Speaking to Yvonne Mangunda on her programme, The Sportlight with Yvonne Mangunda, Mutimukulu also blasted a section of the new ZIFA constitution which states that a president and his deputy should have at least 5 Ordinary Level passes.
Mugadza, who was a member of the now defunct Normalisation Committee drew a lot of mixed reactions when she supported the new clause before urging former footballers without 5 O’ Levels to go for night school.
“I believe if someone has played at the AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations), played CAF Champions League and has 10 national team caps, he has gone to the school of football.
“You have earned the right to lead football,” said Mutimukulu.
The former Sunday Mail sports editor ranted on: “It was devilish for Rosemary Mugadza to say that former footballers should go for night school.
“That was stupidity.
“She is a dull former footballer. If she was sharp, then she wouldn’t have been in that NC. She should have run for office.
“It’s pathetic, you don’t say that as a former national team captain.
The controversial new ZIFA statute shut the door for Yadah owner Walter Magaya and former Zimbabwe national team skipper Benjani Mwaruwari.
Mwaruwari also played for Manchester City in the English Premier League.
Nqobile Magwizi, who has a questionable football history, was eventually elected ZIFA president, with Kennedy Ndebele coming in as one of the two deputies.
Former Herentals player Loveness Mukura is the other deputy.
“If you have owned a team for more than 10 years that’s more than 5 O’ Levels,” reasoned Mutimukulu.
The one hour eleven minutes long interview also touched on Mutimukulu’s journalism history including an episode when he was beaten up by Dynamos bouncers at Rufaro.I
