Aspiring ZIFA board member Sweeney Mushonga has his sights on improving the quality of competition within the local football competition.
Game-On got in touch with the veteran football administrator ahead of the ZIFA elections set for Saturday January 25.
The time is now that we must come up with clear and specific goals in order to improve the quality of our competitions across all leagues.
This will be achieved by creating more playing opportunities for youth players, establish high performance talent development programs in schools, develop regional and provincial technical directors and coach educators and coaches. These initiatives must increase grassroots participation.
Specifically, we need more competitions in districts across all youth age group teams and this will open up unprecedented pathways for clubs and fans across our communities to enhance competition and more fan engagement.
In addition to that we need to take advantage of FIFA, Football for Schools program which is aimed at making the game more accessible to children, contributing to their overall education and development of life skills.
These respective competitions must be held in the best environment possible and bring out full value entertainment as we afford our football matches must offer a platform for our players, coaches and referees to showcase their skills.
In all this, the interest of the fans must be put first. It must be the priority of ZIFA to meet the expectations of the and constantly design unique experiences which will help improve the crowds right from youth games.
The new ZIFA must seize this opportunity and create a culture of success and maximize on the impact of football in our communities.
All this is possible with the right people in office and it is my plea to my colleagues to entrust me with their vote, for the position of ZIFA Executive committee member.
