THERE have been debates over who is the best ever footballer to come out of Zimbabwe.

Some say it’s George Shaya, who won the Soccer Star of the Year a record five times in the 1960s and 1970s.
Others think it’s Moses Chunga, who scored a record 46 goals in one season for Dynamos in 1986.

Chunga also became the first Zimbabwean footballer, post-Independence, to move to Europe in 1988.

Many people are of the opinion that Peter Ndlovu, the first African to break into the English Premier Soccer League in 1992 is the greatest of them all.

Ndlovu also captained Zimbabwe to their first AFCON finals appearance in 2004.

Among those who think Ndlovu is the G.O.A.T is flamboyant and controversial businessman, Wicknell Chivhayo.

He gifted Ndlovu a US$144 000 2024 BMW X6M Sport on Monday.

“THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME…Zimbabwe’s football history is INCOMPLETE without mentioning one player who pushed boundaries and showed the world that when talent meets hard work, MAGIC happens.
“From the dusty streets of MAKOKOBA in Bulawayo, a young, super-talented footballer dreamed of becoming the PRIDE of Zimbabwe’s football.

“His consistent BRILLIANCE at Highlanders Football Club dazzled fans as much as we ALL loved him as captain of the NATIONAL team, the Warriors.

“He made history as the first AFRICAN to play in the English Premier League in 1992, BREAKING records and elevating our nation’s presence on the global stage.

“A big CONGRATULATIONS to you the G.O.A.T, the one and only football TALISMAN, Peter “NSUKUZONKE” Ndlovu, a man who defined football in Zimbabwe and abroad,” wrote Chivhayo on his social media pages.

Khama Billiat who has also been mentioned in debates about Zimbabwe’s greatest ever player, took to his X page on Monday to congratulate Ndlovu, describing the former Coventry and Warriors star as a legend.
“You deserve this and everything good that always come your way,” said Billiat.

The 34-year-old Billiat was among the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League Soccer Stars of the Year who were honoured at a glittering function in Harare on Friday night.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star scored 13 goals for Yadah FC and has been linked with a move back to South Africa.
