Safety At Pools Starts With A Minder

Sports Reporter

A pool minders training workshop that was held recently in Harare, highlighted the importance of professional minders in averting danger.

Every year people die due to swimming pools accidents and negligence conduct.

Lives are lost and some people have permanent injuries, which are preventable.

In an interview, with “The Pool Man” Chief Operating Officer, Mr Pritchard Mauya said lack of knowledge is causing unnecessary accidents in the pool and deck area.

“We urge pool owners to hire professional attendants, as they are the first line of defence in a safety and crisis management.

“They know what to do in an emergency to prevent death”, said Mauya.

The workshops are aimed at teaching safety measures, precautions, pool maintenance and basic first aid training in case of an emergency.

“A test kit is an important component, when it comes to maintenance.

“Pool chemicals are harmful if you dont know the correct measurement and application rules.

“A test kit helps you to measure pH levels, for instance too much chlorine affect eyes and too much pool acid cause skin irritation”, explained Mauya.

The workshop also included basic life saving swimming and drowning dry rescue training.

The training was conducted by Zimbabwe life saving personnel.

Participants were given certificates, after completing the training.
